Rigel: Fine-tuning of new coal fired plant continues

LAMAR—Progress at the Lamar repowering project continues to inch closer to completion said Lamar Light and Power Superintendent Rick Rigel Tuesday. The superintendent informed the utility board that a lube oil flush of the project is tentatively scheduled for August 25 and would be followed by a chemical clean boil out and steam blows in September as the project prepares to come online.

Immunizations required for Colorado children

The 11 required vaccinations are described by the CDPHE as follows: Chickenpox (varicella): The requirement for this vaccine, which first became mandatory in Colorado on July 1, 2000, is being gradually phased in, although health officials recommend that the vaccine be administered to all children and youth up to the age of 18 who have not had the disease.

LA JUNTA — The OJC Dance Studio is beginning Fall Semester classes this week. There is still time to register for classes offered in all levels of Ballet, Pointé, Tap, Tumbling, Hip Hop (for ages 11 and over), and Jazz (for ages 7-11). Openings are still available in Movement Exploration classes for 3-4 year olds, 4-5 year olds and Tot Trot classes.

47th annual reunion held August 11

The 47th annual reunion of the descendants of John Henry and Electa Downing was held on Sunday, August 11 at Willow Creek Park in Lamar. Fifty seven family members and guests were present to enjoy a picnic dinner at noon.
